Not a crisis service. Call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.

NearbyTherapy

Terms of service

These terms govern the use of nearbytherapy.com by everyone who visits it, searches the directory, sends an inquiry or creates a therapist account. By using the site you agree to these terms. Last updated October 19, 2026.

Who runs the service

NearbyTherapy is operated by the administrator of the nearbytherapy.com service. Questions about these terms go to [email protected].

What NearbyTherapy is

NearbyTherapy is an online directory of licensed behavioral health providers in the United States. Listings are built from the public NPPES NPI Registry, maintained by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and refreshed monthly. Providers can claim their listing, verify their license and add details about their practice, and patients can search the directory and send inquiries to claimed profiles.

What NearbyTherapy is not

  • NearbyTherapy is not a healthcare provider. We do not provide therapy, counseling, diagnosis or treatment, and nobody at NearbyTherapy acts as your clinician.
  • NearbyTherapy is not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline). In an emergency, call 911.
  • Nothing on the site is medical advice. Information about types of therapists, licenses, approaches, costs and insurance is general and educational.
  • A listing, a "License verified" badge or a position in search results is not an endorsement or recommendation of any provider. You choose a provider yourself and should ask each provider about their training, approach, fees and availability.
  • We are not a party to any agreement between a patient and a provider, and we do not handle payments for sessions.

Use by patients

Searching the directory is free for patients, and no account is needed. Sending an inquiry to a claimed profile requires a first name and an email address that you confirm with a code. Please do not include medical details in an inquiry. Any information you share with a provider after they contact you is between you and that provider.

Plans and billing

Therapists and practices use NearbyTherapy through a paid subscription. There is no plan without payment for therapist accounts. The plans are:

PlanYearly billingMonthly billing
Solo24 USD per month, 288 USD per year49 USD per month
Featured49 USD per month, 588 USD per year99 USD per month
Group Practice99 USD per month, 1 188 USD per year199 USD per month
Clinic249 USD per month, 2 988 USD per year499 USD per month

Features of each plan are described on the therapist directory listing page. Prices are flat. There is no per-client fee and no share of session fees.

Renewal and cancellation

A subscription renews automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancellation stops future renewals, and your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for. Moving to a higher plan or from monthly to yearly billing charges the difference at the time of the change.

Payments are final

Payments are final, as described in our refund policy. Exceptions apply only to a duplicate charge, a proven unauthorized charge and a complete failure of the service.

Price changes

We may change plan prices for future periods. We tell you by email before a new price applies to your subscription, and you can cancel before it does.

Claiming a profile

You may claim only a listing that belongs to you, identified by your own NPI. Claiming requires an account with a confirmed email address. Before a profile shows the "License verified" badge, we compare the NPI, license number and license state with the NPPES record and with the public lookup of the relevant state licensing board, as described on the therapist license verification page.

  • Everything you add to your profile must be true, current and within the scope of your license.
  • You must keep your license data current and tell us if your license is suspended, restricted or ends.
  • We may remove a badge, hide a profile or close an account when the data no longer matches public records, when a claim is not genuine or when these terms are broken.
  • Claiming another person's listing, or presenting a credential you do not hold, ends the account immediately.

Group accounts

On Group Practice and Clinic accounts, the practice owner is responsible for who receives access and for the routing rules. Each clinician profile remains the clinician's own and is verified individually.

Corrections and removal

Any listed provider can request a correction or removal of their listing on the request a correction or removal page, whether or not they have an account.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • send inquiries that are false, abusive, commercial or unrelated to finding care
  • copy, scrape or resell the directory or any part of it
  • interfere with the security or operation of the site
  • use the site to contact providers for marketing purposes
  • post content that is unlawful, misleading or infringes the rights of others
  • use client testimonials or client information in a profile

Inquiry handling

Inquiries are delivered only after the sender confirms their email with a code. A provider who receives an inquiry decides whether and how to reply, and should handle it according to the rules of their profession and the law. We do not guarantee any number of inquiries, replies or new clients. Undelivered inquiries are deleted after 90 days.

Content and intellectual property

Registry data is public. The design, text and software of the site belong to the service. Therapists keep the rights to the photos and text they upload and allow us to display them on the site for as long as the profile is published.

Limitation of liability

The site is provided as is. Registry data comes from a public federal source and may be out of date or incomplete, and profile details are entered by providers themselves. We do our best to keep the directory accurate, but we do not guarantee that any listing is complete, current or free of errors.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for the acts or omissions of any provider, or for decisions made based on the directory. Our total liability to a therapist for any claim is limited to the amount paid for the subscription in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including rights consumers have under mandatory law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the applicable laws of the state where the service is operated, without regard to conflict of law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of mandatory laws of the place where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the service or the law changes. If a change is significant, we tell account holders by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the site after that date means you accept the updated terms.
