How NearbyTherapy works
NearbyTherapy is a directory of licensed mental health providers in the United States. Patients search free, and therapists claim and verify their profiles to describe their work and receive inquiries.
For people looking for a therapist
You do not need an account, and nothing you do on NearbyTherapy costs anything.
Search by place and need
Enter a city, ZIP code or state. Add a concern, a session format and, if you like, your insurance. Results appear on one page, with claimed profiles that match your filters first.
Read what each listing shows
Every listing comes from the public NPPES NPI Registry and shows the provider's name, credential, practice location, practice phone and NPI, plus the license number and state when the registry holds them. A claimed profile adds the therapist's own details, such as specialties, approaches, insurance, fees and whether they meet in person or online.
Understand the two kinds of results
Concern, insurance and price filters match claimed profiles only, because therapists enter those details themselves. Below them you see More licensed providers in your city, which are registry listings that the provider has not yet confirmed. Calling the practice is the simplest way to ask about insurance and fees.
Make contact
Call the practice from any listing. On a claimed profile you can also send a short inquiry with your first name, email, optional phone, preferred contact time, format and how you plan to pay. We confirm your email with a code and then deliver the inquiry, and the therapist replies to you directly.

For therapists and practices
Your registry listing may already be on NearbyTherapy. Claiming it lets you decide what patients see.
1. Check your listing
Enter your NPI, or your name and state, on claim your therapist profile. You see your listing exactly as patients see it today.
2. Create your account
Choose a plan, enter your email and password, and confirm your email with a six-digit code.
3. Verify your license
We match your license number and state against the NPI registry and the public lookup of your state licensing board. Profiles that pass show a License verified badge. Read about therapist license verification.
4. Complete your profile and receive inquiries
Add your photo, statement, specialties, approaches, insurance, fees and formats. Your profile then appears in concern, insurance and price filters, and patient inquiries arrive by email.
One flat price for therapists
Plans start at 24 USD per month billed yearly, or 49 USD monthly. There is no per-client fee and no share of session fees. See therapist directory listing prices
Where the data comes from and how to change it
We refresh registry listings every month from the NPPES NPI Registry. We never store mailing addresses, photos of unclaimed providers or session notes. Anyone listed can ask for a correction or removal on the corrections page, and we handle requests within 2 business days. Read more on data sources.
